Things to See and Do on Fox Island

As with most communities on the Kitsap Peninsula, Fox Island’s culture revolves around the water.  The Fox Island Yacht Club, located on Cedrona Bay, is truly a community cornerstone. The club’s facilities include moorage and a boat launch, a meeting hall, and scenic grounds where annual festivities like the Summer Luau are held.  The Fox Island Fishing Pier provides the perfect place to cast a line, with a paved pathway and handrails for children’s safety.  The Toehead Boat Launch near the Fox Island Bridge is a great place to begin a kayaking or canoeing adventure.  The calm waters of the Puget Sound are also perfect for waterskiing, jet-skiing, and swimming.

Although there are no state or local designated park areas on Fox Island, there’s plenty of nature to explore in nearby Gig Harbor and the rest of the Kitsap Peninsula.  For example, there are hiking, biking and equestrian trails in every direction. There are excellent opportunities for shell fishing at the Shine Tidelands State Park on the far side of the Hood Canal. Take note, the dramatic high tide erases most of the beach, so you’ll have to time your visit appropriately.  Cutts Island, also called Deadman’s Island, is part of Gig Harbor’s 109-acre Kopachuck State Park. This uninhabited island is a half-mile mile from shore and is accessible only by boat. When you get there you’ll find camping areas and sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains and the waters of the Puget Sound.  The Kitsap Memorial State Park, near the Hood Canal Bridge, covers 58 acres and has facilities for camping, group recreation and even weddings.
